Peas
Main Pea Page
Peas are the cool season answer to beans, truly a legume for very Early Spring or Fall when hard frosts are not present. This article serves as a master list of pea cultivators, all of which should use the following information generically for planting unless otherwise noted.
Planting Time: Fall/Spring
Planting Depth: 1/2 inch
Germination: 10-14 days.
Growth Habit: Climbing; Require trellising or other support at least 5 feet tall.
Harvest Fresh: When pods are formed but still thin to eat as snap peas.
Harvest Dry: When pods are turning brown, or are nearly there. Finish drying indoors, and then shell.
TIP: Don't forget- peas are a cool weather vegetable. If you plant them too late in the season you may not get a good yield. However, you can actually eat the leaves and stems, so try those in a salad if the plants fail to do anything else for you.List of Pea CultivarsIf you can add to this list or have grown something here that deserves its own article, then please continue this.FYI: This is a scrollbox.
