Garden-Wiki.org is best described as a wiki site, run for the benefit of the home gardener. The site itself started as a hobby project a few years back and it has experienced a few revisions over time. Created and still primarily maintained by its admin, a Weekend Warrior Gardener / Programmer, the Garden Wiki enjoys the benefits of mixing skills from both the garden and the web. Originally containing a much plainer Wiki and a Forum, the site has evolved over time to incorporate a much larger set of features and abilities which are geared primarily toward the needs of home gardeners.
Garden Wiki's goals are as follows:
To keep the wiki simple enough so that most home gardeners can use it in a casual manner without having to fixate too much on format, language or suffer overbearing micro-management.
To provide as many wiki articles as possible which are relevant to gardening.
In the case of articles about plants, all articles shall attempt to contain information about any stages of a given plant, from seed through harvest. They should hopefully also include growing instructions. Because this is a hard goal to achieve, we welcome anyone who wants to share what they know from personal experience.
To provide pictures of a plant, seed, or stages of growth for reference. A large number of images on this site are taken for the purpose of meeting this goal by the Garden Wiki staff.
To keep the wiki itself configured in such as way that it can be moderated effectively with a small number of people...after all, some of us would rather be in our gardens!
To inspire communication amongst home gardeners. Please note the forum and classified ad features on the site are an effort in this direction!
