Are you trying to register as a new Garden Wiki user? If so, read the following carefully! The Garden-Wiki.Org website started in 2008 as a wiki anyone could edit and view. While a small minority of users have always been the backbone of the site as far as creating new wiki entries and maintaining older entries goes, by the 2009 - Fall 2011 time period the number of new edits to the site by anyone else dropped to almost zero. Meanwhile people visiting the site to view but not contribute has risen.
This does not make for a healthy wiki, only stagnation. As such the wiki is currently undergoing some changes to reflect the userbase, or lack thereof where it matters. Since this is a hobby site and not motivated by many outside factors, we can pretty much call the shots and thus after trying several normal approaches to attract more editors with a passion for gardening we're testing another method to get some community involvement around here. See below...
At the current time the
only way to get a new user account is to request one directly from the admin via email. Accounts will only be granted to people who contribute to the wiki by writing a new wiki entry for it. If you grow some obscure vegetable or have some unique gardening knowledge or even lots of user experiences to share, then type up what you've got and email it to ken(at)garden-wiki(dot)org for approval and you may earn yourself an account. Please try to understand that this is a trial to see if new content can be created for the wiki and forge a more active userbase and reflects the lack of success with an open wiki model and other attempts to engage users more prior to this point. Please read the points of clarification below as well. Thank You.
- You may either write an article geared toward covering a topic not yet covered by the Garden Wiki or make an attempt to expand on one of the vague articles. Use the search page to see what is already here.
- Without an account you can still make use of the forum/comment areas of the site for garden conversation if that's what you're looking for, perhaps because you have gardening questions. See the link for it on the menu.
- You absolutely must email ken(at)garden-wiki(dot)org with a submission to get an account. Make sure to replace the (at) and (dot) in that address accordingly.
- If you had a Garden Wiki account PRIOR to Fall 2011 and had logged into it at least once since Jan 1st, 2011 then it is probably still here and you can just use the prompt up above to log in as normal.
- Only original articles (you wrote yourself off the top of your head) on relevant gardening related topics will be accepted.
- You are free to continue browsing the Garden Wiki even if you do not make an account.
